Taking care of you naturally

I was reading through the June ’12 issue of a certain beauty and fashion magazine the other day and came across your typical “how to get rid of cellulite” article. This subject that has been written and re-written by so-called “beauty experts.”

Which got me to thinking…

I’m pretty sure we all have it. We ALL have some kind of cellulite, no matter how thin or not so thin we may be. Genetics can be a big determination as well.

These beauty writers recommend using a firming cream, trying a trick of spritzing on a shimmering bronzer and also using a self tanner. They do say you should “add some squats,” but I seriously doubt that their recommended 15 squats 3 times a week is enough. Not to mention the distorted view and pressure that these magazines and society put on women to be perfect.

Here is my simple advice:

  • Be happy with who you are.
  • Take care of your body.
  • Practice clean eating, drinking plenty of water and exercising daily.
  • Remember the simplicity of just doing what your body naturally needs, instead of slapping on some kind of cream or self tanner that is probably loaded with toxic chemicals.

What are your thoughts on this? How do you take care of your body?

Here is a simple hand and body scrub you can make at home using all natural ingredients. Sugar is an excellent and gentle exfoliant for dry skin and olive oil is perfect for moisturizing. The citrus provides alpha hydroxy acid to help remove dead skin cells naturally. Plus it smells pretty great.

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
lemon zest
orange zest
Combine all ingredients and pour into an airtight glass container and store in a cool dry place.
